Windley Key Fossil Reef Geological State Park

Today was a chilly, windy day for us here in the Keys.  We decided to go walk the trails of Windley Key State Park.  The four of us met up with some friends and off we went.  The children loved exploring the trails and being outside on such a cool day.  Mia loved climbing the large rocks while Logan was content with the huge sticks he found on the ground.  Some background on the park... this land was sold to the Florida East Coast Railroad which used the stone to build Henry Flagler's Overseas Railroad in the early 1900s. After the railroad was built, the quarry was used until the 1960s to produce exquisite pieces of decorative stone called Keystone.

After running around the park, our family went out to lunch at Midway Cafe, a quaint little restaurant in Islamorada.  Daddy ate a BLT, I had a portabella mushroom sandwich, and the kids had cheese pizza.  When we got home, we made homemade playdough and watched Rio.

It was a wonderful weekend!

  1. Hi! I saw your question on RQ but since I do not post on there (too much drama) I thought I would leave you a message here.

You will need a VPN to blog or facebook from China. We used ExpressVPN and it was great. Skype ROCKS! We skyped to my parents and my daughter (we left our 4 year old home and it was the BEST and most responsible decision ever even though it was hard)twice a day. You do not need to buy the minutes if the people you are skyping to have a computer as that is free. a little FYI though. turn your VPN off when using skype because if the connection is slow the vpn might slow it down more and you don't need the vpn on the skype anyways.

We thought about getting a panda phone but there really would have been no need for it. glad we spared that expense.

    Best Wishes!!!

  2. Thanks so much for the information! Also thank you for sharing your experience with leaving your four year old at home. It is going to be so difficult leaving my hubby and two kiddos at home, but I believe it is the best decision.
